About the job
We’re looking for a Business Development Manager to join our team of Lightbenders and help take OPTOMAN to the next level in the U.S. and beyond. This is a U.S.-based role, with regular travel across North and South America for customer visits, trade shows, and conferences.

Growing the market
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across your region
- Build your network at events, technical meetups, and industry conferences
- Manage the full sales journey from first contact to contract win
- Hit your quarterly targets (and then some)
Being the technical expert
- Learn our laser optics and coatings inside and out
- Help customers identify their needs and how we can support them
- Create clear, tailored value propositions that resonate
Keeping relationships strong
- Serve as the main point of contact for your customers
- Understand their technical challenges and how OPTOMAN can support them
- Collaborate closely with R&D and engineering to deliver great solutions
Owning your pipeline
- Prepare proposals, quotes, and timelines
- Keep our CRM up to date (you’ll thank yourself later)
- Work with marketing to sharpen our story and sales tools
- Manage multiple projects while keeping everyone informed
What we’re looking for
A technical background
- BSc or MSc in physics, optics/photonics, electrical engineering, or similar
- Genuine curiosity about photonics is essential
Sales experience
- 2–5 years in technical sales, ideally in optics, lasers, or high-tech hardware
- Experience with industrial, OEM, or R&D customers in the Americas is a big plus
Great communication
- Fluent English speaker, confident presenter
- Able to make complex technical concepts simple and compelling
A self-starter
- Organized, proactive, and comfortable working remotely
- Ready for regular travel and managing your own schedule
A creative problem-solver
- Strong analytical skills with a hands-on, collaborative mindset
- Enjoys tackling tough challenges and delivering smart solutions
What you’ll get
Fair pay
- Competitive base salary (depending on experience)
- Generous commission structure paid on all new sales
Room to grow
- Career development opportunities: training, mentoring, and learning from some of the best in the business
- A fast-growing team where you can make your mark and take on real responsibility
The culture
We’re Team Lightbender: open, supportive, and ambitious. We believe in thinking big and helping each other do our best work.
Please note:
This is a 1099 contractor position (not an employee role). This arrangement may transition to a W-2 employee position in the future.
